Kae Sutherland’s Japandi Kitchen
How did you find ASWA Kitchens?
We came across ASWA Kitchens through family. They had also chosen a kitchen there and were very happy with the service. That made us curious, so we visited the showroom in Helmond ourselves.
And then the big renovation of the house began, and you needed a new kitchen. Where did you start?
During the renovation, I looked up a few ideas on Pinterest here and there, but I actually knew quite quickly what I wanted. We wanted a kitchen that matched the dining table nicely, so that when guests are over, everyone could be in one space. There wasn’t room for an island here. Another important factor was that the kitchen should blend well with the rest of the house. It was therefore important that the kitchen had beige tones.
For the countertop, we really wanted natural stone, but on advice, we chose a look-alike: a travertine countertop. It’s much more practical with children, easier to clean, and low maintenance. It also really looks like natural stone, so we are very happy with it. The cabinets needed to be light but not completely white. That looked best with the countertop and blended nicely with the rest of the interior.
How did the process go from idea to final result?
Actually, very quickly and smoothly! We went into the showroom and quickly found the colors and materials we were excited about. We took the samples home to see if everything matched, and it did! We left the layout entirely to the experts, after all, you know best.
It was important for us to have plenty of storage space but without high wall cabinets. ASWA designed our kitchen, and it was actually perfect right away. I also immediately got a good idea of how the kitchen would look. We now have tons of workspace and storage, and we are very happy with the tall cabinet wall!
Another great idea was hiding the stair cupboard. It’s next to the oven and blends seamlessly with the rest of the kitchen. We also really wanted a coffee corner, because it looks cozy and stylish, and because we love drinking coffee at home.

Did you have specific requirements for appliances?
A must-have was definitely the Quooker, it gets used so often! Beyond that, we didn’t have any specific wishes and left it to the experts. We’re not exactly kitchen pros, so having a BORA X BO oven with all its different functions is really handy, haha. We also wanted a cooktop with an integrated extractor, which is why we quickly ended up with this BORA.
What’s your favorite spot in the kitchen?
The coffee corner, because we, but especially my boyfriend, love drinking coffee. Beyond that, we’re just very happy with the final result! The kitchen fits perfectly in our home.
